Through hands-on training, patient care experience, and clinical hours, they are now ready to take the Illinois Nurse Aide Competency Exam and earn certification. The 8th-grade science class has been working on building electromagnets. In this scenario, Bob, the owner of Big Bob’s Salvage Yard, wants his electromagnetic crane to pick up more scrap metal. The students are engineering a design to increase the magnetic force so the crane can lift more items.

On March 26, the National Guard’s 5th Civil Support Team visited an 8th-grade science class to provide hands-on demonstrations of hazardous substance detection and personal protective equipment. This specialized Bartonville-based unit supports emergency authorities by identifying chemical, biological, and radiological threats to protect public safety. Through this visit, students gained a firsthand look at the critical role of science in domestic incident response and disaster management.

ZOOLOGY

Mrs. Swan's Zoology classes toured the Jake Wolf Memorial Fish Hatchery. They were able to get a behind-the-scenes look at how fish are raised from eggs to when they are ready to be released. They also go to talk to the tour guide about how science and conservation work together and the different career paths at the hatchery.

FINANCE

Last week, our 7th and 8th-grade students visited the SRC Reality Store at Spoon River College, where they participated in a hands-on simulation focused on real-world financial responsibilities. Students explored the cost of living by managing expenses such as housing, utilities, and everyday needs, while also practicing budgeting and decision-making.

A special congratulations to 8th grader Valdi Mbula, our top middle school ticket seller—thank you to everyone who supported SIMS by selling March Madness tickets!

CAREER FAIR
Friday, March 6
On Friday, RIHS welcomed over 38 organizations to our annual Career Fair. Career Clusters represented included Agriculture, Building Trades, Business, Communications, Education, Healthcare, Military, and many others. Students gained valuable insight into a variety of career opportunities, many of them local. Proudly represented as presenters on this day were over 25 RIHS Alumni. Thank you to all who made this event a success!
